God is greater

Worry is a feeling that I battle some days. Maybe you can relate.

.

In John 14:1, Jesus says:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled, trust in God, trust also in me.”

.

Trust. Pisteuo in Greek means to believe; to commit unto; to place confidence in.

.

Trust is the antidote for our troubled, worried hearts and minds. Trust is also the antecedent for peace. Trusting in Jesus, believing in his plan, placing confidence in him; that he has already overcome, counteracts a troubled heart. And, trust in Jesus also ushers in a peace that displaces worry.

.

I use the word “displace” because worry and trust cannot co-exist. To displace means to take over the place, position or role of something. To cause something to move from its usual place. Have you tried the science experiment where you force an empty glass into water? The glass remains empty because air and water can not co-exist inside the glass. That’s displacement. The water is forced to stay out. The air takes over the space inside the glass. That’s exactly what trust will do. If our hearts and minds are full of trust, then worry has no room.

.

Isaiah 41:10 reminds us of this truth:

“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

.

God is greater than our worried hearts. (1John 3:20 MSG) We can trust in him.
