daily nourishment
I grew up in and out of church. I accepted Jesus as my Savior in early high school, but didn’t really understand what a relationship with Him really meant. As with many young adults, my spiritual life was not a priority. I was too busy having fun in college and setting goals for the future. One day in my late twenties, my mom gave me this Bible and EVERYTHING changed.
.
For the first time in my life, I decided each morning I would sit down in my favorite white chair with my coffee and open it. I started at the beginning because that’s where I always start a good book. I didn’t realize how hungry I was for the truth and wisdom that jumped off the pages. In addition to scripture, there were devotionals written by older godly women weaved through the pages. It was as if I had wonderful mentors speaking God’s truth back to my heart.
.
God breathed new life into my weary soul during these precious morning moments.
.
Now 25 years later, I believe more than ever before that being in God’s word DAILY is ESSENTIAL to a healthy spiritual life. It also impacts every area of our lives. And, I think that is the first thing that we let slip when our lives get too busy or too stressful.
Rick Warren says this: “If you’re not pouring over the Bible, trying to glean every bit of wisdom from it, then you are not fully tasting the banquet that God has prepared for you.”
.
Psalm 119:103 says, “How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey” (NLT).
.
Warren says: “This Bible is full of nourishment—spiritual food that will keep you healthy, and even lots of desserts.”
.
“Are you fasting or are you feasting on the Word of God? Keep in mind that going to church once a week and hearing a sermon is not a feast. If you only ate one meal a week, then you wouldn’t grow or be healthy.”
.
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4 ESV).
.
Are you needing encouragement, joy, direction, understanding, wisdom, comfort, focus, guidance, freedom, courage, hope? Sit down. Open your Bible and hear God speak these things to your heart.
